Good morning! It was a fun and busy weekend around the Dixon house because we had Mema and Grandpa in town visiting!
We had a great time and it’s always nice to have extra hands to help with projects and with Hailey holding. I’m pretty lucky to have such wonderful in-laws. I’m grateful everyday for them raising such an incredible son who I get to call my husband.
That’s right, folks, A Healthy Slice of Life is serving up a little cheese today, but in honor on Valentine’s Day being tomorrow, I thought it’d be fun. Feel free to join in!
1. How long have you and your significant other been together?
Hm. This should be an easy one, right? We started dating in 2003, but there were a few years of off and on due to the fact that he was a couple years older than me and was working in the real world while I was still living it up in college world. So we’ve been together somewhere between 6-9 years.
2. How did you meet? {What’s your “love” story?}
We met 11/29/2003 at a UGA/GT tailgate party set up by one of my sorority sisters. I had been out the night before and really didn’t want to go, but one of my best friends dragged me out of bed and we showed up to Sigma Chi house at Georgia Tech for the party a little on the early side. We wandered the halls looking for a place to sit for a bit and ended up finding a couch in a room at the end of the hall. We sat down, looked up and saw a (drop dead sexy) guy getting out of the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist. He saw us sitting in the mirror and was shocked (because you don’t often see girls at Georgia Tech ) but still flashed us a smile.
We hung out that day, but in the craziness of college football, I ran off. However, a week or so later he called to invite me to a Christmas date night, and being that I just had gotten out of a dead-end relationship, my girlfriends pushed me to go. I’m so glad I did, because sparks began to fly. I actually called my parents the next day and told them I had met the guy I was going to marry. True story.
3. If married, how long have you been married?
It will be 3 years this May the 2nd.
4. Where did you get married? Big or small wedding?
We got married outside in the north Georgia mountains. We had about 115 people in attendance and it was exactly the wedding I wanted. I love looking back at pictures and reliving it!
5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!
I call him babe. Pretty creative, huh?
6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
I could name so many! But if I must choose 3… I love his sense of humor. It’s exactly in sync with mine and we laugh all the time. I love his intelligence. It still amazes me to this day how much he knows about all sorts of random subjects. We still talk for hours and the conversation doesn’t get dull. I love his outlook on life. He works hard and is incredibly driven and takes amazing care of Hailey and me; on the other hand, he plays hard too, and has an incredible sense of adventure. I consider myself one very lucky lady.
7. Tell us how he proposed?
He surprised me by proposing in the Blue Ridge Mountains at an overlook off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
After I said yes and was jumping around the car, he whisked me off to a bed and breakfast in Hot Springs, NC where we spent the weekend eating delicious food, kayaking down the Broad river and talking about our future.
8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?
Haha, can I say neither? I guess I lean towards champagne and flowers (if potted flowers count). He shows me he loves me in a million other little ways though.
9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?
I’m a let’s go on an adventure together kind of gal.
10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant other one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?
Visit New Zealand. And a million other places.
11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine’s Day.
Remember that hard working part? He has some mandatory work business to attend to, so I’ll be putting our little love bug down, then snuggling on the couch with Koda.
12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s day?
Nope. Just a billion more Valentine’s days to spend together.
13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
I’m a music nerd, so I love listening to lyrics. One of my favorites by Lee Brice sums it up pretty well in my opinion…
Be a best friend. Tell the truth. Overuse I love you. Go to work. Do your best. Don’t outsmart your commonsense. Never let your praying knees get lazy. And love like crazy.
14. Show us a picture of what love means to you.

In your opinion…

Whitney says
Super Super cute!! Hubs and I started dating 9 years ago today! I know it’s so cliche but time really does fly when you are having fun!! There is never a dull moment with us and I think that’s important 🙂
Brittany says
Borrow away- it’s part of the link up at mrstomama!
Brittany says
It does fly indeed! Sometimes I look around and think ‘woah, how did I get here?!’ 🙂

Oh my gosh- love when couples share pics from the early years! Ryan and I started off very similar, being on and off. Glad you guys returned to what you knew was right, too.
Side note- I also went home after meeting Ryan and told my Mom I met the man I would someday marry!
Love the advice and that song now. I don’t listen to nearly enough country.
Jenny says
So sweet!!! And I definitely love Valentines Day as it when Dan so very unexpectedly (only because it’s so cliche and I never would have suspected he pick that day) proposed to me 🙂
Think I may borrow your questions too if you don’t mind!
Michaela says
such a cute post 🙂 I love hearing other people´s love stories!! However, I am not into Valentine´s Day at all 😉
KaraHadley says
I’m from Georgia, so I totally understand the whole “no girls at GT”-thing. Don’t they usually date Agnes Scott girls?
Oh, and Hailey’s eyebrows crack me up. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a baby with such dark, defined eyebrows.
Brittany says
I know! And she uses them to make the funniest expressions. Gosh, I love that munchkin.
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I love love and I love this! Super cute! As you know, I went to UGA for undergrad and my fiance went to Georgia Tech – in a way I can relate to a lot of your love story! We’re not a V Day couple so no big celebrations here. In Vishnu’s words, “every day should be a celebration of our love.” 🙂
Brittany says
Aw, Vishnu definitely is a keeper!!
Elizabeth says
so cute!! I had never heard that song but it’s awesome
Kelsey says
Love the picture at the end!! So precious of a precious little family!
Maria says
This is so sweet! I want to see more photos of the little family shoot with Baby H!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Fun post! I love your pictures, especially the proposal one and the last one. 🙂
I’m not a big fan of Valentine’s day. The hubs and I don’t really celebrate it, and that’s okay with me.
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
Your love story is so cute! I loved reading about it!
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
I’m going to join the cheese with you tomorrow. This is too fun not to do! Plus, I loved reading your answers. 🙂
Brittany says
Oh yay! I can’t wait to read your’s 🙂
Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot says
Love this post! And that last picture was an awesome ending!!
Hate Valentine’s Day 😉
Lauren K says
Great post and super cute story…I love looking back at old pictures!
Lindsay@Fuel My Family says
I like it but I feel like Its became too much of a hallmark holiday. I like the idea of celebrating the love but not about 6 dollar singing cards and random Teddy bears. Did you make these questions up or can I steal them to answer some myself?
Brittany says
I didn’t make them up – I got them from the blog MrstoMama, so steal away 🙂
Amy@ahealthyandhappyheart says
love valentines day! I hope you enjoy your day 🙂
heather says
Love that country song. One of my faves. I will have to do this on my Blog !
Laury @thefitnessdish says
Hi Brittany! I’m gonna sound like you said and say so glad you found me so I could find you! Sincerely! I love “meeting” other new mom HLBers…so fun!
I love this. #8 is my man too! Neither! Ha! I may join in a do this tomorrow if I can get a post out [depending on my baby’s schedule]–and if my husband will not be embarrassed if I so a tell-all hahaha.
Nice to *meet* you!
blackhuff says
Thank you for sharing your story with us.
Valentines day is not something I love nor do I hate it. It’s just another day for me though.
Emily says
So cute – I hope you three make it out here to NZ someday soon, we will be happy to have you!

Loved the post! So cute. The difference to my love story is that I went to Tech and he went to UGA. I hope you and your beautiful family have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
