Certain things you can just count on. For example, you can count on the fact that a family trip to Hilton Head with sunny skies and 80 degree days is going to result in some wonderful memories.
You can count on the fact that once warm weather arrives, I’ll be on the lookout for a quality mojito, and David will be in search of the perfect margarita. Thanks to Salty Dog Café, we found some good ones!
You can count on the fact that I’ll forever be taking too many pictures of Hailey.
You can count on the fact that if dogs are allowed on leash on the beach in the mornings, that we’ll take advantage of it every. single. day.
You can count on the fact that if my family has the option to ride bikes over driving the car, that we’ll log more than 20 biked miles a day pedaling around the island.
You can also count on the fact that if you push too far past nap time, that Hailey will do what’s necessary to catch some zzz’s.
You can count on the fact that if I’m even remotely near the ocean, I’ll eat seafood at every meal possible.
You can count on me not straightening my hair once when it’s time to start trying to battle humidity.
You can count that after such a fun weekend I’ll rebel against making a grocery list and try to wing it… which will result in unnecessary, yet delicious, purchases.
And you SHOULD be able to count on the words “all natural” to mean something, but thanks to the Kashi scandal, everyone is now more aware that “all-natural” in fact means absolutely nothing.
What’s one thing you can count on?
Will you still buy Kashi now knowing that over 70% of their soy is genetically modified?

The picture of Hailey on the beach, with the sun in her face is gorgeous! She is such an adorable baby!! Looks like you had a fun vacation!
That’s highly disturbing about Kashi :/
Lee says
Kashi is owned by Kellogg’s so it doesn’t surprise me.
lauren says
Uhhhg. I remember being so disappointed when I heard that. I”m pretty sure they own Morningstar Farms too. Between them and Kraft, they’ve got a good part of the market covered. And by good, I mean bad :/
Kristin says
I’m torn about Kashi – it’s the only cereal my picky guy eats, and I don’t want him to have an excuse to start begging for Lucky Charms instead… so now I have to choose between pesticides and sugar??
Brittany says
Maybe go for oatmeal instead?! Overall I try to avoid GMOs, but it goes along the same line of making the healthiest choice possible that is available to you. It’s most disappointing because Kashi portrays themselves as “all natural” and GMOs certainly don’t seem to fit under that definition.
Liz @ IHeartVegetables says
Aw it looks like you guys had a fantastic time! That’s so awesome 🙂
blackhuff says
Oh seafood is just SO delicious 🙂
Glad you and your family is enjoying the warmer weather so much. We are supposed to have Autumn here with a jersey but nope. South Africa is 77 degrees Fahrenheit today 🙂
Brittany says
It’s still so funny to me that the weather is opposite on the other side of the world. Hope you get some fall weather soon- I know how refreshing it feels after a hot summer!
Stefanie says
Buffalo popcorn seasoning?! I want to try that!!
Looks like you guys had a great vacation. I love that pic of Hailey sleeping in the bike seat.
Brittney says
I didn’t know you were going to Hilton Head! Awesome! Hope you guys loved it as much as I do 🙂
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
Boo I really like Kashi 🙁 Glad you had a good trip … let’s get together soon!
Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength says
Looks like a great trip! I went there once when I was younger and would love to go back. 🙂

Your trip looks SO fun!
I hadn’t even heard about the Kashi scandal but it doesn’t affect me because I never buy their products. I’ve never been a fan of their cereals, and I don’t like to buy cereal bars either. Not sure what else they offer.
Lindsay says
Yum buffalo seasoning! I make Buffalo popcorn all the time at home with a mixture of Frank’s hot sauce, melted Earth Balance and nutritional yeast- so good
Brittany says
Oh, I will have to try that combo! Sounds right up my alley!
Danica @ It's Progression says
That’s so awesome that you can take just a weekend trip to such a beautiful place!
so disappointing about Kashi, but I’ve heard all over the place that “all natural” truly doesn’t mean anything (unfortunately)
lauren says
So jealous about your trip to the beach, it looks so beautiful!
My problem with Kashi is that they’ve touted themselves as something special, natural/different/etc. I used to buy their bars/cereal because I could count on it not to contain HFCS. Now that I’ve seen that photo, taken in my tiny state of RI, I’m truly aware of how serious this whole food “situation” is. What the heck U.S.! Where are our standards.
I’m eating gluten free now, but I won’t be purchasing their products anymore. I DO hope they continue their switchover to GMO free.
Lisa says
I love your dress, you look great! And that picture of Hailey sleeping is the sweetest! Your trip looks like it was lots of fun too. I did hear that about Kashi, but honestly have never bought any of their products because I read the ingredients and they didn’t sound the best anyways. So I suppose I will just continue not buying it haha.

The past couple years we’ve vacationed at Bald Head Island, but we’d love to try out Hilton Head too (we hear they’re very similar). Would you do some more posts about vacationing at Hilton? Would love to know more about your experience with HH!
Brittany says
So funny- I’m going to Bald Head in late July and have never been before. I’m really excited!
I could have stayed at Hilton Head a lot longer, but we crammed a lot into 3 days. I loved http://skullcreekboathouse.com/ for dinner. Beautiful view, fresh seafood and a big outdoor area. The whole island is very bike-friendly, so I highly recommend renting bikes. It was only $16 for a 3 day rental. It’s worth a trip over to Harbour town to see the lighthouse and all the shops, too. Have a great time!!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
That was such a feel-good post, until you got to the Kashi thing! Thanks a lot! 😉 Just teasing. Wow, I need to read more about that scandal. I had no idea! I buy Kashi products fairly frequently!
Belinda says
I don’t think we have Kashi in Australia, but it’s so disappointing that companies use labels like ‘all natural’ when they don’t mean anything. It makes it so hard as a consumer!
Speaking of brands though – they recently brought Chobani to Australia!! After all this time reading about how much you love it! I tried a few for the first time last week and really like them 🙂 I like to put some dry oats, chia and sunflower seeds in it and mix it up – yum!
Brittany says
I’m so glad you have Chobani now! Try the black cherry- I think it’s my fav 🙂
Katie @ Pop Culture Cuisine says
I love Kashi, so disappointing to hear…p.s. I love a good mojito, in desperate need of finding a good one when it warms up around these parts!
Shannon says
My husband and I are spending a week on Hilton Head Island this month. We’ve never been there before. Do you have any must sees or must dos? Thanks!!
Brittany says
A whole week?? I’m so jealous. We did dinner at a place called Skull Creek Boathouse (http://skullcreekboathouse.com/) and it was awesome. Big outdoor area with a beautiful view and the seafood tasted so fresh. I highly recommend it. Also, get bikes. We loved biking all over the island and it was only $16 for a 3 day rental. Have fun!!
Shannon says
Yes, a whole week! I am beyond excited!!! Thank you for your suggestions – Skull Creek Boathouse was already on my list of restaurants to visit and definitely getting bikes. We already reserved them through our resort. 🙂
Brittany says
Sounds like you’re on top of it all already! I also recommend Bomboras Grille (http://www.bomborasgrille.com/) Their food was our favorite. My mom has the mahi mahi special and it was AMAZING. So was their seared tuna flatbread and buffalo chicken sliders. mmmmmmmmmmmm!
Shannon says
Thanks, Brittany!!!!

One thing I can count on is FAMILY! Loved all the pictures and great memories! I think we will have to make this a yearly trip!
Heather says
Yay for Hilton Head! I can always count on great times there…and now everytime I go back I will be reminded of the day I get to make the lifelong commitment to my fiance…Saturday May 5th, 2012, standing on the beach near sunset.
