Hi friends! Welcome to the very first edition of Munchkin Meals!
I came up with the concept after I started posting Hailey’s meals on What I Ate Wednesdays (via the lovely Jen at Peas and Crayons). I saw that a lot of people were interested in what she ate. I also was interested in what others were feeding their babies and children. I figured what better was to share our kids’ meals and get new ideas to use ourselves than to throw a link up party! Goodness knows I’m always looking to switch things up.
We use Baby Led Weaning. Here’s why and how we began. Do you use BLW? Purees? A blend? Show us what works for you!
Now on to a day of Hailey’s eats…
Breakfast was scrambled eggs with organic green pepper, baby portabella mushrooms and diced yellow onions. Diced local peaches and Cabot cheddar cheese, too.
Lunch was a stir fry. Organic red pepper, organic spinach and free range chicken sautéed with brown rice in coconut oil. Diced organic grapes on the side.
Dinner was whole wheat ravioli stuffed with spinach and cheese (from the freezer) and diced grape tomatoes. The pasta is drizzled in olive oil. Why? Not because I’m trying to raise a fancy child, but because now that Hailey is crawling, she’s burning more calories and her weight percentile dipped, so the olive oil is to add in a few extra calories for my growing girl!
Now, your turn! Link up and show us you munchkin meal. If you have any troubles or questions, please email me at Brittany@ahealthysliceoflife.com

I soooo love this idea! My little one is only 12 weeks so we have a bit if time before solids. We really want to do BLW. I love that H eats basically normal meals! So so cool. I cant wait to see what else you post and what others send in!

What a cool idea for a link up! I’m obviously not feeding any little ones over here, but I love the concept! 🙂

How cute! I’m surprised I haven’t seen any pictures of boobs yet! Lol. Love this!
Brittany says
Oh my gosh, Holly, you’re hilarious! I guess I should keep a close eye to make sure nothing pornographic shows up- haha!

Brittany thanks for the link up. I have thoroughly enjoyed perusing everyone’s post this morning. If only I was a big girl and had a blog site so I could participate! Partly this blog has made me feel like I am right on track, and partly it’s given me some great ideas! Such an important topic that there is no great instruction on! Feeding Avery is a new and sometimes frustrating adventure, it’s nice to see other moms thoughts!
Kelly@Runmarun says
Thanks so much for hosting this Brittany! Hailey is a very lucky little girl to have a mom who makes such amazing meals for her! I’m so impressed with the effort you put into her food and I would eat all of those things myself! I am looking forward to reading other posts too!

I am loving this, Brittany! I usually post what Parker eats on instagram with hash tag #toddlermeals , and since I don’t blog, I just linked up with Instagram. Hope that’s okay!
I love all these ideas – need to get some cherry tomatoes and pickles to keep in rotation for Parker!

Brittany, thanks for the link-up idea. I don’t have a blog to link-up to, but I’ve enjoyed seeing what other moms are feeding their kiddos and also may have found a few more blogs to follow. You’ve all provided me with some great ideas for keeping my daughters meals interesting and easy. My biggest thought after reading these posts is how I can’t believe my little girl, who was exclusively breastfed until two months ago, is now able to eat almost anything and is no longer such a little one.
Brittany says
I feel the same way. Sometimes I’ll look at Hailey and wonder, wait, when did you get so big??
Megan says
Even though Charlotte isn’t really into solids yet (just a bit of cereal), I’m loving this link up! It’s been fun to see how different moms approach the feeding process, and it gives me lots of idea for the future. I hope you keep doing the link up so that I can join in soon!

Ok I know these posts are going to give me soooo many ideas for my 8 month old. I have one question though, what do you do with H while you’re cooking ?? I don’t even have time to take the food out of the freezer before my boy is screaming and crying. We do a lot of jarred food and even that takes too much time to prepare in his opinion. Any ideas ?? I want to feed him gourmet fancy raviolis with EVOO lol
Brittany says
Now that H is mobile, cooking is more “exciting” shall we say? I usually sit her on the floor with a stack of solo cups, haha! I have toys (or cups) that are just for the kitchen, so they are more interesting to her since she doesn’t play with the all the time. Between the cups and Koda, she stays occupied enough for me to throw her dinner together. I’ve also heard of people putting the baby in the highchair with some puffs as an appetizer to keep them busy.
And those fancy raviolis? They cook in 3-4 minutes!! Brilliant 😉
Laury@TheFitnessDish says
Great idea!! I need to do this! I wish I saw this yesterday!

I’m a first time visitor to your blog – I found the link-up through a tweet by Lisa @ Splattered Apron. I’ve loved reading everyone’s baby meals.
My little one got the okay for finger foods & to share my meals from the doctor her 9-month appointment last week. She is loving pasta: whole-wheat linguini with jarred pesto sauce, cheese ravioli w/chopped arugula, ditalini o’s with veggies & shredded chicken from homemade soup. Cheerios & puffs are mealtime staple. Baked frozen sweet potato fries went well and steamed carrots. Whole wheat teething biscuits have been a huge help for teething pains.
I’m going to pick up the yogurt bits many of the moms mentioned & find brown puffed rice cereal. I hadn’t considered hummus before but it seems like a great idea. Thank you for all the great ideas.

So, so, so helpful! We’re also doing baby-led with my little guy. Quick question–how much of that food actually makes it into her tummy? The portions I give my son are about the same as you show, but sometimes when I sweep the floor afterwards, I fear more ended on the floor than being eaten. Just curious.
Caitlin says
dawww her little eats look so cute. i legit have never seen cuter food. this is a great idea brittany, not just for blog moms, but for baby picture lovers like me 😀
Kate says
This is amazing! I have an almost 10-month old and always seem to gravitate toward the same foods to give her when it’s mealtime. I already made a shopping list based on what I’m seeing in some people’s posts. Thanks so much for a great resource!
Jen @ My Kitchen Addiction says
I’m so glad I stumbled on your Munchkin Meals series… I actually did it by accident (looking for any info on switching from 2 naps to 1 that I could find!). My little girl has been a picky eater so far, and at 9 1/2 months, I’m ready to be done with puree and get her to eat more food. You’ve given me a lot more ideas of what to try. Thanks!!
