We spent this last weekend at home. Crazy, right?? It felt that way to me after being on the go for so much of July. We didn’t know what to do with ourselves. Luckily Hailey took charge and drove us to the pool.
She’s now comfortable being dunked and we’re even letting her linger for a quick second under water. No tears and she even is learning to prep by squenching up her face and (maybe?) holding her breath.
Inspired by the Olympics marathon Sunday morning, I donned my new LOVE swag and knocked out 4.5 miles. Surprisingly, even with the heat and humidity, it was a great run. It’s amazing what training with a stroller will do for you when it’s finally time to run without it!
We also finally got to work on turning our bonus room into a playroom. We’ve cleared it out. Next up is renting a heavy duty carpet cleaner, then I’m ready to create! David got us started by building these awesome forward facing bookshelves for the reading nook. Love that he is such a handy guy <3
We also spent a little time with friends splashing in the lake in just a diaper. There’s only a little bit of summer left; we better soak it up!
Finally, I made it to Target to stock up on some essentials for the week. I made the rookie mistake of going list-less which meant my hands were free to grab new things to try at their whim. I actually found a few things I’m pretty excited about…
Though I prefer to feed Hailey fresh foods, there are times I forget to prep and are cutting things close on time. I grabbed a couple of these Amy’s kids meals to have on hand. Hailey gobbled up this broccoli and brown rice mac n cheese (minus the apple bake).
This gopicnic ready-to-eat meal caught my eye. It’s like a healthy lunchable that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Hummus, crackers, fruit and nuts, edamame and dark chocolate? Pretty amazing combo and a healthy lunch to grab on the go. Gluten-free, vegan, kosher… sweet.
Move over baby spinach (ok, just slide a bit because I still want you around), but LOOK! Organic baby kale! I’m thinking of trying this in smoothies, sautéing it or mixing it in with other salad greens.
I’ve been craving Indian food and couldn’t help but grab this Target brand simmer sauce. We tried chicken, broccoli, peas and chickpeas in this sauce over brown rice last night and gave it rave reviews. It was packed with curry flavor and I was pleasantly surprised at the spice level (it’s spicy without burning you tongue).
Have you found any new product lately that you’re loving?

I love how honest you are regarding the fact that sometimes time do get to you and then preparing a meal from scratch will take too long hence the frozen meal you picked up.
Brittany says
Oh yes, I love my freezer! My other favorite is to keep frozen organic peas in the freezer. H likes them frozen. I call them pea pops, because that makes it sound more fun- haha

I’ve just jumped on the PB2 bandwagon so I’ve been obsessed with putting that on/in everything lately!
Brittany says
I keep seeing PB2, but don’t know much about it. I’l have to check it out- thanks!

My friend Alison told me about those Go Picnic packs and I started buying them for Greg to take on the plane. He really likes them 🙂
Jen says
Great job on the run, Brittany! Those Go Picnic foods sound like the best idea for a road trip!

I have a great tiki masala recipe – it was a mcCormicks pre-measured spice pack.
Frozen treats – try dollops of your fave yogurt on waxed paper in the freezer. They peel right off and put in a container to keep frozen and then a great snack! Mom, 4 yo and 9 mo love.
Baby kale is great in soups!!

Just curious, why do you dunk Hailey in the pool?
Brittany says
One thing I’ve really wanted to make sure of is that Hailey gets comfortable around water as soon as possible. We are around water a lot and the sooner she can learn to swim, the better in my book. Dunking helps teach her to hold her breath when she goes under. Next up, the infant 400m! …just kidding 😉

We’ve taken our kids on the boat since they were little (they’re 4 and 6 months now) but I’ve never heard of dunking, hence the question. Good to know!

Aw! Adorable photo of Hailey!! Way to rock the 4.5 miles even in the sweltering heat!!
No new products over here…I am highly obsessed with coconut butter though. I could eat it every meal everyday and be content in life;)
Danica @ It's Progression says
Lately I tried coconut oil for the first time and I’m having a lot of fun trying it with/in new foods!

My friend’s sister in law runs GoPicnic or owns it or something…either way, she gave us several boxes to try and I thought they were GREAT! The roasted edamame is great to slip in the purse on the go. I think you’ll like it 😉
Maria says
The Go Picnic meals sound perfect for air travel. We usually fly Virgin and similar meals on there are $8 and not quite as healthy. I’ll be sure to check those out.
And congrats on the 4.5 miles!
liz says
just wondering why you didn’t give hailey the apple part of the amy’s meal… to much sugar?
Brittany says
Yes. I wasn’t sure how much sugar, but I took a bite and it was pretty dessert-like to me, so I skipped it. I’m saving the sugar shock for when she digs into cake on her 1st birthday 😉
Andie says
I am going to have to try those go meals to keep on hand for me and the little guy! thanks for sharing!
