It’s funny. Logically I know my due date is Friday, but I don’t really know what I’m supposed to be doing in the meantime. I’m soaking up time with Hailey, but we still have our day to day activities going on, too, so what does that really mean? I should be watching her sleep?
Don’t have to tell me twice.
Oh, to be two!
So though I do have a Munchkin Meals post planned for Thursday (sorry I totally forgot last week- I hope you will link up this week!), I’m sort of just rolling with the rest of it all in anticipation of getting to post SHE’S HERE!!! sometime sooner than later.
So today, let’s just chat about some things I’m loving lately…
1. The chiropractor. I won’t lie, I’m a little wary of chiropractors in general. I had a bad experience with one a few years ago, but I know it doesn’t represent them all. After my doctor’s appointment yesterday I visited a chiropractor a friend recommended to me to chat with him about helping baby girl turn a little more anterior. I’m not sure if what he did helped, but after 10 minutes or so of different gentle stretches and pressure points, my back really did feel more relaxed. Apparently he helped loosen up some ligaments that will allow her to get a little cozier in the right direction. I’m game!
2. The grill. We hit 90 degrees here in Charlotte yesterday. I’m not quite ready for those temperatures yet, but looking at the 10 day forecast, we are holding steady in the 80’s from here on out. Here comes summer! Along with the heat comes tons of fresh vegetables and I find myself wanting to grill them all. A little oil, salt, pepper and garlic salt is all you need to turn any plain veggie into a delicious dinner.
3. The internet. What isn’t it good for? Yesterday I was halfway through making these pecan pie bars for a neighbor who had surgery and needed a substitute for corn syrup. I read I could sub honey 1:1 – brilliant! Thank you internets. These are delicious by the way… you know, if you’re in the mood for copious amounts of butter and sugar.
4. Get Clean Nature Bright. This natural laundry boost and stain remover is a miracle worker. It’s been hanging out in my laundry room for a while without use, but I finally put it to the test this past weekend after David squirted blueberry juice from his blueberry pancake alllll over the sleeve of his shirt. I just knew it was going to turn into my newest rag, but I decided to give the boost a try and IT WAS GONE. This was hours after the stain had set and everything. Color me impressed.
5. The idea of running. I’ve been perusing the 2015 dates for Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathons. I remind you that the furthest I’ve ever run is a 10k (once!) and that running is seriously difficult for me. So why do I keep finding myself on their website? Perhaps my lack of a physical challenge is giving me hallucinations of grandeur? Someone tell me that labor and delivery is around the corner and perhaps I should be focusing on that instead?
6. This.
7. My kindle. I swear I used to read, but you wouldn’t guess it by the sad lack of books in my life lately. Though we don’t usually do gifts, David surprised my with a kindle on our anniversary. His logic was that soon I’d be nursing a lot and it would be easy to hold and navigate with one hand, plus you can download toddler-friendly games and apps if I needed help with Hailey. What a sweetheart!
Also, did you know you can link it to your local library and check books out for free? I’m already well into Salt, Sugar, Fat and am feeling excited about reading again! However, I need some suggestions…
What are the best books you’ve read lately?
Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy says
I’m a little late to the party, but I loved Gone Girl! Can’t wait to see the movie 🙂
Loving the grill too, so glad it’s finally warm enough to enjoy it.
Kaitlyn (Keeping up with Kaitlyn) says
I can’t believe your baby girl is due Friday!! As far as books I’d suggest the Divergent series. Kinda Hunger Games- esque, but they are an easy read and I’ve enjoyed them a lot!
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve heard people love that series. I’m definitely putting it on my list. Thanks! 🙂
Karen says
I love watching the little ones sleep…so peaceful!! I have been reading the Divergent series and so far, it’s good. Can’t believe your due date is Friday. I am thinking Saturday…:)
Linda says
You can totally do a half marathon. You can do it “wogging”. I recently joined a Mom’s running group and they run intervals. 3 minutes running and 1 minute walking. This method is known as the Jeff Galloway method, an olympic runner. You should google him. I was skeptical of this method with a typical reaction of that is not really running. Then I discovered I loved it. I ran 10 miles with the group and was able to chat the whole time and at the end I felt great. I also completed a half marathon doing 3:1’s in 2 hours and 2 minutes. I couldn’t believe it. The best part was at the end I still felt great. I was tired, but not completed defeated. I just signed up for a full marathon in November and plan to use this same method. Also, I just started running in November of 2013 using the Couch to 5K to get started. You CAN do this!!!!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh my gosh, good for you!! I think a method like that would actually work really well for me so I could focus on the next mini break coming up. I’ll definitely check it out- thanks!

I’ve been reading a fair amount lately since I’m waking up pretty often in the middle of the night. I’ve been working my way through the “16 books to read before they hit theaters this year” from Buzzfeed. This Is Where I Leave You has been my favorite so far. The Fault in Our Stars is good, but definitely a tear jerker. Also, I’m in the middle of The Goldfinch and enjoying it so far. Fingers crossed for a good ending!
Swiftie22 says
I would suggest the Divergent series. It’s REALLY good; I’m obsessed! It’s mostly targeted to teens (that’s why I like it), but it’s sooo good, I think everyone can enjoy it. 🙂
Tiff says
I doubt it’s easy to rest with a two yo, but do your best to get some R&R. So exciting!!
I’ve been eyeing RnR races too. I wanted to do one this summer, but my foot issues are saying Heck No!
Danica @ It's Progression says
That picture of Hailey is absolutely priceless!
I recently read the book “The Dirty Life: A Memoir of Farming, Food, and Love” by Kristin Kimball and I think you’d love it!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh, that does sound right up my alley- thanks!!
Lindsay Ingalls (@RunWithTongs) says
I have signed up for (too) many 1/2 marathons not to follow through for one reason or another but my goal for 2015 is to finally do one and I won a free race entry that I can hold on to until next year so I have no reason not to do one! The farthest race I have done so far is a quarter marathon (6.55 miles) but I am ready to double it. Maybe it’s because I am just missing running but I’m ready for the challenge and ready to focus on non-pregnancy fitness.

when am i NOT in the mood for copious amounts of sugar? i made some GF bread last night (with oat bran) and though the texture was off it was soooo sweet. just from 1/2 cup of sugar. i’m not really sure why i felt like telling you that…omg too much coffee hahah
Sabrina says
Ummm how are you already due? Good luck lady.
Also, Hailey has SO MANY friends in bed with her! Now I’m feeling mean for only letting R pick out 3 things. I might have to rethink that.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh yeah, I don’t try and fight that battle, haha. The good news is it all keeps her really entertained when she’s not quite tired or wakes up early!
Ali says
I really want to read more of the Gillian Flynn books!
Tia says
I recommend Sarah Jio’s books! Well-written, entertaining, and easy to read.
I’m also jealous of the 90 degree weather. I had to wear mittens last night (Chicago).
Brittany Dixon says
If only we could meet somewhere in the middle of mittens and 90 degrees!
Shari says
I’ve read some amazing books lately. Favorites include: THE BAKER’S DAUGHTER (Sarah McCoy), THE THEORY OF OPPOSITES (Allison Winn Scotch), and CATCHING AIR (Sarah Pekkanen).
Fingers crossed for baby news soon! 🙂
Lauren B. says
I recently read The Book Thief (which is now a movie) and although it started off slow for me (and the narration is a little strange to get used to) it totally hooked me! Such an amazing story of a little girl during WWII. Definitely needed the Kleenex at the end.
Prayers to you! Can’t wait to hear the good news!
Jaclyn @ BumpSweat says
Love grilled veggies! We had veggie, pineapple & chicken kabobs Saturday night to kick off grilling season 🙂 ‘Overseas’ by Beatrice Williams was my most-recent favorite read. So good, especially if you like books with a hint of sweet romance.
Maria says
These are a few of my favorite things…chiropractor, bed full of stuff animals (doesn’t that look fun?), my Kindle and of course Shaklee products.
I’ll always stand by any book by Sarah Jio. There’s romance, a bit of mystery, and they are set typically in the Pacific Northwest, making them feel a little moody and cozy. Except the one in Bora Bora – that was my favorite and probably good for a spring/summer read.
Brittany Dixon says
Ohhh which one is in Bora Bora? Sounds like a nice, light read… for all that free time I’l have this summer, right? Let’s just pretend 🙂
Maria says
It’s called The Bungalow and it’s set during WWII and follows a nurse/soldier love story and a mystery. And now I have goosebumps!
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says
PLEASE come run R&R Savannah with me! I will get you through it!!! And Em sleeps just like Hailey.
PS – I seriously can’t believe you’re due FRIDAY!
ErikaMC says
I just started Gone Girl and it’s got me hooked.
Just out of curiosity… Would you make those pecan bars for yourself/family and make them without substituting? I’m only asking because I find myself making less healthy things to bring into work that I would never make for myself at home. It’s not like I don’t think my coworkers deserve the healthier stuff (most of them wouldn’t like it) but I also enjoy baking with all the butter and sugar but I don’t want to eat it all (of course I have a bite or two but I don’t want to tempt myself by leaving it in the kitchen).
Brittany Dixon says
I actually substituted because I was already halfway through and realized I don’t own corn syrup- bad planning on my part! Oops 🙂
I am really not a baker, so I rarely make many sweet treats. However, if I do make something for us to eat, I don’t worry too much about what is in it. For pancakes or other more common baked goods, I’ll experiment with healthier ingredients, but since we eat true sweets so rarely, I say bring on the butter and sugar!!
Paula says
Another vote for Divergent series also I really loved Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline.
Good luck, I hope you have a speedy labour!
Matt @ Runner Savvy says
I love the kindle app on my iPad!
Coco says
I’m about to buy a grille, which one do you have? Do you like it!
Thanks for the stain remover recommendation, I need it! Toddler is a mess/stain maker!!!
Tara@PNWRunner says
I love my kindle as well and I need a good book. I need recommendations too. I tend to watch shows on netflix at the gym. Definitely helps with cardio. Also, yes the the interest is a savor when it comes to researching how to substitute ingredients for recipes.
Dana says
Sending good thoughts on baby news…..exciting 🙂 Just wanted to chime in with some book recommendations, “Lost Lake” by Sarah Addison Allen, very good! “The Woman he Loved Before” by Dorothy Kromson also very good !
char eats greens says
I’m kinda glad you forgot about Munchkin Meals because I really wanted to link up this month with travel snacks for toddlers, but it was just too hectic last Thursday – so hooray!! haha
I really want to do a rock n’ roll half, and I’m sure you would do amazing. I just ran a half this past Sunday with the littlest training EVER and I felt amazing. How does that one work?!?!?
Being able to spy on Hailey while she sleeps seriously makes me want to get a video monitor for Nia SO badly (I even told Tyler about the system you use and I think he’s down!!)
Jill Shelley says
Thanks for the info on the laundry booster. I ordered myself some!
