It’s Friday, Blends! We made it! WaHoo!
Thanks so much for your encouragement yesterday… I needed it! Although, how could you not believe I could run 28 miles?? 😉
Speaking of running, this morning was Day 3 of Week 8… again running for 28 minutes straight. The good news is I’m not as worried about being able to jog for that long as I used to be. Now I just hope I have enough good songs on the iPhone to get me through.
I started with a pre-run snack:
A spoonful of pb&co White Chocolate Wonderful (& it is soooo wonderful!) & some ‘loupe on the side!
I also had a little extra bounce in my step because I received a BONDI BAND in the mail, after winning Mimi’s contest at http://pursuitofhealthfulness.com/. Thanks Mimi!!
Now… how to wear it?
Like a ninja?
in a fashionable way?
It turns out it worked best for me when I spread it out over my head…
This headband was GREAT for running! I’ve always thought I had an odd-shaped head because headbands never stay on me… but this one did! It gripped my head enough to hold my hair, but without hurting. Love it!
The 28 minutes went well… my breathing was easy, I was cramp free and my legs felt strong… except for one place on my left leg…
It feels kind of like a pulled muscle? Or tendon?
About 1/2 way through it started hurting… kind of aching whenever I put pressure on my left leg.
🙁
I got home and stretched, but couldn’t quite figure out how to stretch that section of my leg. So I iced it.
I asked Hubbs what he thought it may be, but he’s more knowledgeable about spines…
So I’m asking you…
Have you ever injured this area of your leg?
Is it a muscle? A tendon?
What should I do about it? Ice? Rest? If so, how long??
I’m a little sad about it because I don’t want it to throw off my progress. Next week I’m on to week 9- my final training week!!
A shorter post than usual, but I’ll be back on Monday (my BIRTHDAY!) with something fun!
I’d love to hear what you have to say about my injury… & have a fantastic weekend!!
I leave you with some beautiful fall flowers in my new vase from Emily… Thanks again… love it!!

I hope you find some relief with that injury and it doesn’t put you out to long. I have taken this whole week off due to my hip pain. I think it may be helping some. As for your leg, I am not quite sure, but I would think a pulled tendon in that area. I’ve been told rest and warmth for my hip. But initially use ice & rest, and then heating pad.

Oh no!! Sorry you’ve got some pain!! 🙁 I think that might be tendonitis and icing and stretching should do the trick. I think stretching your calf muscles will help. Don’t quote me though, just speaking from my own experiences, but I’m definitely no expert! Hope it goes away soon!!
Have a great weekend!! Happy Early Birthday!! 🙂

I am jealous at your run 🙁
It’ been pouring rain all day long, and I’ve haven’t been outside of my house at all :/
I wish I could help you with that injury, but I never experienced pain in that area.
I suggest you rest for a day or two, maybe stretch your leg a bit, apply some ice…
Injuries can get pretty serious when not treated, so be careful 😉

Ah little kinks like that are so annoying! (I like to call them kinks instead of injuries because it’s a less scary word, haha, and usually if you take care of it when you first feel it, it doesn’t become an “injury”). I can’t remember – did you just get new shoes? I’ve had similar pains while breaking in new shoes…maybe something about the way your foot is hitting that’s causing the pain? Make sure you don’t continue running if it hurts and certainly seek out a sports med person if it continues!

Well unless you go to a doc, you will never know for sure. Sometimes you’re body will get aches along the way as you GROW your fabulous muscles. Ice is the right thing to do. Heat always comes much later. Runners joke that Aspirins are orange vitamins.
I would take it easy and just see how it feels. It could be a minor tweak. Stretch it out and take it easy.
I personally LOVE the headband!

Sorry you’ve got pain! That stinks. I’d say just rest it for the remainder of the day — see how you feel in the morning.
I love the bondi band 🙂
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
Yowch! I have no idea what you’ve done to your leg, unfortunately. I would say rest it for a day, then test it out. If it continues to hurt, definitely have it looked at…you don’t want it to get worse!
I love my BondiBand too! They are perfect for running….my hair always gets in my way. It is nice to have a headband that stays on, isn’t it?

I know nothing about injuries, sorry! But great job on your run! Can you believe there’s only a few more left? I have to get in two runs over the weekend… we’ll see how that goes.
Lindsay @ Pinch of Yum says
I have had the same sort of thing when I was running alot for my half marathon. I was pretty painful – sometimes I had to even stop running altogether. I never figured out what it was… it just went away as my running decreased. Hopefully it’s nothing serious! Way to go on the running btw!

Happy early birthday! Have a great weekend. 🙂
And I’m not sure about the leg but I hope it feels better.

I’ve got to get myself a Bondi Band! So cute.
I’ve had an injury similar to this one and mine was more or less just soreness from the impact of running. My trainer said to stay off off of it until it produced no more pain, ice occasionally and keep it elevated. Epson salt soaks work too 🙂 Typically mine went fully away with 3-4 days of rest.
The cause? (this is my trainer talking, not me): Most likely from our bodies/ankles/feet adjusting to the impact of running. New runners typically have these sort of injuries until their feet and ankles can build up enough strength to deal with the pressure of impact. Basically this means hope: the more we get into running, the less likely these things will occur (well, I hope so!). Good luck!

Love the Bondi Band, you look so cute! Sorry about your leg hurting! I wish I had some good advice to tell you. Hope your leg gets better soon.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Ouch! From what we’ve learned recently in anatomy..I think it may be a tendon. Unfortunately tendons don’t have blood supply so if you’ve actually torn it, surgery is required to repair it. I’m sure it’s just a stretch though because tearing it would be immense pain… I found this site that might be helpful.

Hope it gets better! 🙂

Good luck with the running. I always thought I had a misshaped head as well! I find that the headbands from lululemon with the grip really help (especially if you’re used to headbands slipping off quickly, which I am!)
Thank you for sharing the pb&co white chocolate wonderful – I have NEVER heard of this but I must try. Today is my first day reading your blog and I literally made white chocolate brownies the past 2 nights because I had a weird craving for white chocolate and now your blog! It must have been a sign!

oh no! hope you heal up nice and quickly! you know, i think i’ve injured every part of my body except that one area. (of all the luck :p) i bet all you need is rest. give it a day or two and you’ll be hitting that pavement again 🙂
have a great birthday!!!!!!!

Oh no!! I hate leg injuries!! I’ve had a couple. But not in that part of my leg. I’m sorry I’m not of better help 🙁 I’m an expert on knees and inner thigh though!! Just rest it up so it has time to heal. The worst thing to do is to keep working on it when it hurts.
