I’ve been debating about whether to do a post about all the goals I want to set and resolutions I want to work on for 2011. I still might so that, but there is one challenge I’ve set for myself that I definitely wanted to share with you all.
Why?
Partially because I am excited about it, but more honestly, because I need you to help keep me accountable. Selfish, right? 😉
It started after I ran my first 5k…
and I didn’t keep up with running very well afterwards. Without a goal to strive for, it was hard to keep myself motivated.
I played with the idea of another 5k, but with the craziness that is the holiday season, it didn’t happen.
Then for Christmas my awesome parents gifted me some motivation in the form of running tights.
BAM! Welcome back motivation, I’ve been wondering where you’ve been.
I tried these out on Monday with a wog and they felt fantastic! They kept me warm, but not too warm. And they kept my thighs from ever touching each other, which I enjoyed as well! 🙂
Motivation? – Check!
But now I needed a goal. Somehow I already knew what I wanted it to be. I wanted to run a …
10k!
And here’s how I plan to do it…
a 13 week plan.
3 days a week.
beginning slowly again with calculated wogs.
and using my NEW favorite iPhone app- COUCH to 10K!
I loved the Couch to 5k App so much, that I figured I can’t go wrong with the 10k variety. I love it because it starts off slowly, and since I have been on a hiatus from my regularly scheduled jogging, it’s perfect!
Let me remind you that I am not a natural runner. Plus, given the really cold weather we’ve been having, I don’t foresee this being easy. But that’s OK, because I’m going to give it a go and see what happens! And hopefully I’ll have you all behind me giving me a swift kick in the rear 😉
…and if anyone knows of any 10ks around late April somewhat close to Charlotte, NC, please let me know!

Great goal! I think I’m going to try out a few more 5ks before I leap to 10k but go you!
Melissa @ Be Not Simply Good says
Exciting! I love having an event lined up to keep me motivated. 🙂

Good luck with the 10K! I ran my first 10K this past November and it was amazing! I’ve heard great things about the couch to 10K training program. I’ve been debating signing up for an 8K in March, but I’m not sure I can actually train out in the cold weather! I’ve been treadmill running for the past month or so.

Good for you, Brittany! A new goal – a substantial one. You continue to inspire and be a good role model for your company. Loved the Christmas sharing and pictures shown on your blogs. On my blog I just posted a New Year evaluation and direction post. Check it out: drstathas.com

YAY! I’m exactly the same way – I need a race to motivate me. Funny, that’s what I wrote about on my blog today too. A lack of motivation in the running department. Glad you got your running mojo back. It’s the little things (like running tights) that get us excited to get back out there. I bought myself a running calendar (that way I can stare at it EVERY morning) and get inspired.
I’m excited for you and know you will rock your 10k!
Maria @ Oh Healthy Day says
I too can relate to the running blues. I fell off the wagon for a while during the holidays and wasn’t even sure that I’d pick it up again for my first 10K in March. Hopefully reading about your progress will help motivate me as well! Can’t wait to read about it!
Melissa says
Good luck with your training! I’m sure you will be back into the running groove in no time! 🙂
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
Good luck! I’m trying to get back into running too! 😀

Good luck to you, I’ve heard great things about the Couch to _K programs too!
My husband signed me up for a half marathon in May…I just don’t think I have what it would take to prepare for it.

Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Good for you! I wish I had motivation to run.
Sadly, I have motivation to ellipticalize and watch Real Housewives while doing so.

I am mad crushing on those running tights! I need to pick up a couple pair from the Nike Outlet. Loving that you set a goal as well, that always help me stay focused 🙂
Cynthia says
Sounds like a great plan. I haven’t been running at all, but I thought that the Peachtree Road Race 10K here in GA would be a good race to motivate me. Maybe I’ll try that app. 🙂

You can do it Brittany! I was never a “runner” either… all it takes is building up your endurance, and I actually enjoy running in the colder weather better than any other time. I find that the heat tends to zap me of all energy. You will amaze yourself with how far you can actually go once you get going. Good luck with your training!
Roz says
Good luck with the training, I’m SURE you’ll accomplish that 10K goal!!! Yay you!!

Congrats on the big goal! I stand by my view that the 10k is by far my favorite distance…
