Only 103 days left until we get to meet Baby D! Doesn’t counting down make it feel a whole lot closer?
I’m over 25 weeks along and according to my What to Expect iPhone app, Baby D weighs TWO pounds and is 9.2 inches long. Picture an eggplant… in my abdomen. Wowza.
How I’m Feeling
I’m creeping closer to the third trimester and can start to tell. This past week I’ve noticed a few changes, like little bouts of queasiness and an occasional heart burn episode or two. Nothing crazy, but I’m just noticing a few things that aren’t normal for me.
I’m still getting leg cramps during the night sometimes, and my bladder seems to fill up awfully quickly these days, too. Overall, still feeling pretty good though!
What I’m Eating
No real cravings to report this week. My Indian food obsession has subsided for the time being, but Mexican cuisine always sounds delicious (that’s totally normal though, as you know if you’re a regular reader :)). I always have in the back of my mind that Baby D can taste what I taste, and it helps keep me motivated to put the best stuff in my body… like last night’s dinner:
How I’m Workin’ It
Still doing it, y’all!!! Speed walking at varied inclines 3-4 days a week and prenatal yoga once a week. Plus, I’m loving the strength training I’ve added in. It’s helping my arms and legs feel more toned. I also love the smiles I get from people at the gym. I’ve even gotten a few ‘good for you!’s and it encourages me to keep going.
I did hit a bump in the road a few days ago when my legs just constantly felt fatigued. I talked to my yoga teacher and she encouraged me to give myself a break and take some extra rest days. I explained that this wasn’t a concept I took to very well, but she assured me that now is the time to take it easy when I feel I need to. The class she led on Tuesday was not as intense as usual and it felt great. I know it sounds cheesy, but I feel my most beautiful during yoga. Watching my pregnant body stretch, I feel strong and peaceful. I like seeing the muscles in my arms and back flex and my belly rise up and down with my breath.
Miscellaneous
Weight Gain: 18 pounds. I’m almost back to the highest I’ve ever weighed. Some days I cringe at that fact, but most of the time the number on the scale doesn’t effect me nearly as much as it did when it first started going up. I’m not ashamed to admit how much I’ve put on because I want to be honest with y’all. I think right now I’m on track to gain about 33 pounds total.
It will be that much more fun to work it all back off once Baby D arrives, right?
Nursery: Well, the exciting news is that we got a call that the crib is in! We weren’t expecting it until late August, so I was very surprised. We’re going to wait to get it until we get new carpet upstairs, though, so the search begins for carpet deals! Hubbs got to work on installing a ceiling fan and I cleaned all the junk (AKA Hubbs’ brewing supplies) out of the room. Progress, my friends, progress.
Please notice the BLUE carpet. We also have a PINK carpet and a GREEN carpet room. Now really, must I explain why we’re getting new carpet?
Koda’s Perspective: Completely clueless that there is a baby in there, and just figures Mom has been eating a few too many chips and salsas lately 😉

Cascade Challenge Winners!! (Chosen by Random.org)
#25 Shannon The first time I used an enameled cast iron dutch oven to braise meat, I was amazed at how tightly bits of sauce and beef stuck to the bottom! I thought the point of braising was that everything gets TENDER… My mom does have trick for cleaning up stuck on food (should your Cascade fail you!), but it has to be a stove top safe dish, like a pot or pan: Add some dish washing liquid (not dish washer detergent) and water to the dirty pot, boil it for a minute or two and let it cool. Most stuck on anything should wipe right out!
#35 stephanie use has to be the baking dish when we bake (skin on) chicken with jerk sauce on it. it ALL sticks to the pan and takes forever and ever to remove. But its delicious
#1 McKayla (green groats) My blender (when I leave it dirty overnight and must try to clean it the next day)…ughhhh. No fun
#30 Melissa Agree about the oatmeal bowls. I always fill with water in the morning so it is a cinch to clean once I get home from work.
#31 Kari I would have to say the crock pot can be difficult to clean; especially after making my yummy cheese dip!
And double congrats to #31 Kari– you won the Walmart Gift Card, too!
Ladies, please send your address to Brittany@ahealthysliceoflife.com and I’ll get the prizes in the mail to you stat!

I too would have given you a “Good for you” if I see you at the gym because many pregnant moms don’t exercise at all.
Brittney says
Haha, Koda’s perspective cracked me up 🙂 Looking great Brittany!

Those 103 days will fly by! I think it is great that you are staying active during your pregnancy 🙂 I’m sure it will help you to feel better throughout and also after you give birth! I hope to do the same one day when i am pregnant (far…far in the future :P).
Also, love that about the doggy. “Moms been eating too much salsa and chips!” haha too funny!

Oh I’m getting excited for you! [And I’m excited about the dinner you ate last night…and slightly jealous. :)]
Corey @ the runner's cookie says
Love hearing about your baby journey! You look like you have lots of energy, and obviously getting very excited 🙂
I imagine it’s hard to not get a little bothered by the weight gain (even though it’s 100% healthy and good!), but it will come off when it’s time. You are doing great with all the changes and keeping up with your normal eating and exercise routine!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Brittany I think it is great that you are still exercising! I can understand that you were frustrated to be told to take it easy though.
A friend of mine told me when she was pregnant that everywhere she went people would just smile at her — or they’d look at her belly and then smile at her. Sounds like people at the gym are doing that to you!
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
I can’t believe your already 25 weeks! It’s flying by!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
Looking great, Brittany!
I’ll never understand why people chose blue carpet. When my boyfriend and I moved into our house it had blue carpet with specks of pink in every room! First thing we did was tear it out!

Do you find it a little hard to believe that the third trimester is just around the corner? I have less than 100 days left and it has smacked me across the face like a ton of bricks. How’s your memory doing? I’ve noticed mine going a little bit lately. Have you had any “I hate my husband” days? I don’t know why, but the last few days I’ve wanted to smack him upside the head a few times lol
Brittany says
I’ve definitely had some memories mishaps… I opened a jar of peanut butter, set it down and came back later to see it still sitting there opened- I forgot to eat it.
Another time I stuck a dirty dish in the fridge instead of the dishwasher… I’m losing it!
Melissa says
Those 103 days will pass before you know it! That is awesome that you are keeping up with the workouts and you look great. Can’t wait to find out the sex of Baby D! 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
I love seeing preggo ladies at my gym. I’m always their biggest cheerleader! 🙂 you’re a rockstar. I can’t wait till Baby D arrives!
Sarah says
I forget sometimes that baby can taste what I’m eating- thanks for reminding me! Oh, and weight training? I’ve pretty much fallen off the wagon with that (and actually with most exercise due to some recent events), but I remember that doing it has me feeling so much more toned. Time to get back to it for me!

You and the babe look awesome!
I know how you feel about having trouble taking rest days. I struggle with that too even though I know, in the long run, it’s usually best for our bodies.
Caree @ Fit-Mama says
25 weeks??!! crazy! only 15 more weeks to go!! once you are in your third trimester it will definitely fly (well maybe not for you 😉 )
Tina says
I think you’ll be surprised how fast it comes off if you’re staying balanced during pregnancy. It’s just the re-toning of the body that takes awhile. You’re doing great and I love that you’re open about your gain. Shows that its a healthy and GOOD thing! 🙂
