WOoooooooooooooosh! That’s the sound of the last weeks flying by, and I couldn’t be more pumped about meeting this wiggly one in my belly. I hope s/he keeps growing like s/he should, despite the fact that I have no clue how my belly could stretch any further (famous last words, I’ll bet…)
Before I get to the nursery’s big debut, let’s knock out some facts:
- Days left until my due date: 55! (I’m 32 weeks and 2 days)
- My blood pressure: 112/62
- Baby D’s heart rate: 132
- Head down? For now. Please stay that way, baby!
- Total weight gain: 24.5 pounds according my scale
- Workouts per week: Averaging 4-5
- Workouts of choice: Walking, swimming (not laps, but leisurely in the lake), elliptical, arm weights and yoga.
- Workout length: Besides yoga (60 minutes), I top out at 35 minutes a cardio session.
- Cravings: Pancakes and tomatoes
- Current Rave: I love BuyBuyBaby! We registered there and their customer service is amazing. Example? The delivery people only grabbed our crib, not out glider, so the store manager took it upon herself to drive and deliver our glider last Friday. I live 45 minutes from the store. WOW.
- Cutest Happening: Hiccups! Every single evening and sometimes in the mornings.
Now… let me take you on a tour through Babyland! Before we found out the sex of Baby D, Hubbs and I decided on a gender neutral nursery. We both have the same taste in design- simple, clean, peaceful and nature-ish.
So, in short, we didn’t design the nursery with ‘girl’ or ‘boy’ in mind, but feel free to speculate on what you think we’re having anyways 😉
One of my good friends, Toni, that I’ve known since middle school painted this and mailed it to us. Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s hanging on the door to the nursery.
Opening the door, this is what you’ll see:
I love how calming the nursery feels. And so fresh and new, thanks to our new carpet. Koda approves!
I can’t put my love for the glider into words. It’s made by Dutailier and is the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in and is perfect in our ‘book nook’. A pair of reading rabbits sits on top of the book shelf, which is beginning to fill up with childhood classics.
I was so nervous about the crib because we ordered it without seeing the wood finish we chose in person. I feel so lucky that it turned out better than I could have imagined! It’s exactly what I wanted.
I found the tree decal on Etsy and Hubbs and his dad did an excellent job of putting it up, just how I wanted. I’ve become quite the particular pregnant lady.
The bedding was custom-made, which Hubbs will never let me live down. I was suckered in with a Groupon and there was no turning back. Luckily, I love the soft, paisley print and gingham. It’s organic cotton (oh yes, I’m one of those moms). 😉
For the first little bit, Baby D will sleep in our room, in this Moses basket. Isn’t it sweet?
Now, I could use your help.
We plan to paint wooden letters, in the gender-appropriate color, spelling out Baby D’s real name and hang them on the wall between the glider and crib. Do I need anything above the bookshelf? If so, suggestions?
The dresser/changing table is all set, but I need something to go above it. A clock? A mirror? What do you think?
There you have it! A sneak peak into the nursery. I am very proud of it, despite the fact that I have no eye for design. That’s why I would really appreciate and value your feedback and suggestions for details to add in.
Also, I have received a few great suggestions for other baby-related posts that I’m anxious to write about, and will do so!
Do you have any requests for blog topics regarding Baby D, eating during pregnancy, labor, post baby, etc?
Lindsay @ Pinch of Yum says
OK, I don’t know why, but I love perusing baby stuff on Etsy, and I have definitely seen that tree and wished I had a nursery to use it in! LOVE it!
Ashley M. [at] (never home)maker says
First: YOU LOOK GREAT! 4-5 workouts per week is impressive. Esp with only 55 days to go <3 The nursery is so calming and beautiful. I love the neutral colors . . . aw. I'm so excited for you!
Sonya says
Brit,
The nursery looks amazing. You did a fantastic job you little decorator you.
How about framing an ultrasound photo until you have a family photo to hang above the changing table or bookcase?
Brittany says
I like that idea! I love the little yawning 3d ultrasound picture. PS- we need a serious phone date, Mrs. J. 🙂
Amanda @ Sistas of Strength says
LOVE the nursery! 🙂 I love BuyBuyBaby too. Their customer service was always incredibly wonderful. They rock. Definitely go with a framed photo above the changing table. That’s what we have although it’s empty STILL because I ordered the wrong size photo when I ordered the first round of pics. LOL
Shannon says
I think you need some framed photos/pictures around. Both over the book shelf and the changing table. You could do photos of you and your husband and your belly(!) for now and then change them out with photos of the little one 🙂 You could also find/take/have your VERY talented friend do some images of trees, leaves, flowers, fields, very “nature-y” stuff to frame and hang around. LOVE LOVE LOVE that tree decal.
Brittany says
We definitely need some framed photos. I’m so bad at printing them out. We actually need them around our entire house! Maybe this will give me the kick in the butt I need to get some printed and framed. Thx!
jordan says
Maybe put a few shelves above the changing table so you have room for photos and mementos. Then you can hang a mobile from the bottom shelf that will entertain baby (you will need that distraction one day!). Nursery looks GREAT! You did a wonderful job. I can’t wait to see baby D in it!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Brittany you are so right — that nursery is so calming! I love the tree decal with the little birds! How adorable.
I’m not sure what more you could add!
Melissa says
It’s beautiful. I love that you already have a book nook. A woman after my own heart. 🙂
I was also going to suggest a mobile above the changing table. Baby will likely spend plenty of time there in the early months. Framed photos would also be a nice addition. I love the suggestion of displaying the ultrasound pic.
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I love it so much!!!!!!!!!! It looks just adorable. A clock is probably a good idea. Young House Love has some really cute ideas too. 🙂
erin says
you don’t need anything above the bookshelf, but i think some sort of light airy mobile (not a wind up type but more something you’d find on etsy) would look great hanging above the changing table.
Jen says
I LOVE it Brittney! We want to do something similar: warm, clean, and gender neutral. I think our wall colors are going to be pretty similar! And we are doing the same thing with the wooden letters. In fact, I almost ordered them yesterday but I figured I should wait until next week’s ultrasound when we know she is a she 🙂
I’m so excited for you! Can’t believe you only have 8 weeks or so left!
Brittany says
I still think my little one is going to change genders on us at each ultrasound, but it’s been confirmed every time. I’m still glad the nursery is neutral though… just in case 😉
Can’t wait to see what you do for your nursery!
Heather says
You look beautiful Brittany. I love the nursery. You have done an excellent job. I like the idea of a mirror over the changing table and then posting pics of you and your family around the room. I can’t wait to see you and baby D in this room.
Jen says
Sorry! I know you’re BrittANY! I’m just so used to writing it the other way for a friend 🙂
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
I think a big painting or some cute baby clothes on pretty hangers would look great above the changing table. You’re nursery looks great! 🙂
Katie H says
You look gorgeous and your nursery is stunning- and perfectly gender neutral. I love the soft tones. I don’t think you need anything over the bookshelf- you don’t want the room to be too busy. It would take away from the tranquility in my opinion! Also, that painting your friend did is amazing.
I very much think you are having a girl! 🙂
Brittany says
Why do you think girl?? I love hearing people’s theories 🙂 I can’t wait to share!
Katie H says
I can’t wait to find out! 🙂
I think girl for a few reasons- 1) that wasa just my initial suspicion (no reasoning) 2) your diaper bag is purple, right? Even though it’s for the mother that puts me in the girl direction and 3) we are carrying kind of similarly and I am having a girl 🙂
I can’t wait to find out if I’m right! 50/50 shot! 😀
stephanie says
i think its a girl too 🙂
Cheryl says
I would put a picture of the baby on top of the changing table!
The nursery looks adorable! I’m 18 wks…and looove BBB too!
Brittany says
18 weeks- almost half way!! Congrats to you 🙂
Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde says
That tree is sooo sweet
I love the whole nursery – you did such a great job
Maybe a mirror above the changing table that way you can see each other even if the baby isn’t looking right at you – thats just the first thing that popped into my head when i saw that space 🙂
Its sooo perfect and i laughed out loud at your “i’ve become a very particular pregnant lady!”
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
it’s look great but I’m finding some peoples suggestions would probably make it that much better! Good job on the progress! I love that tree!
Christina says
I think a small mirror would be great above either the bookcase or the changing table – babies are so fascinated by their reflections! Or, how about a picture frame with three openings, with a baby picture of you, your husband, and your new baby? It would be a fun way to see who the baby looks like! 🙂
Martha Jane says
BEAUTIFUL! 🙂
I don’t think you need anything above the bookshelf but a giant clock would be great!
Jess Mathias says
Looks great! and I love love love that pic of you in the yoga pose.
Melissa Strickland says
I am a paranoid mama, (I have such fear of something falling on my children!) so I wouldn’t hang anything above the changing table, but would probably put another decal on the wall above the table. Your nursery is beautiful and you look wonderful!
Lauren @ HeyLo says
I am the same way! Well, I don’t have kids but putting something heavy over the changing table would worry me a bit. I liked one person’s idea of a light weight mobile. The nursery looks beautiful though, great work!
Brittany says
Do people but mobiles over the crib anymore? I was going to, but everyone has mentioned it for over the changing table… am I late to the party?
I think I’ll be a worried mama, too 🙂
Lauren @ HeyLo says
Why not both? Go big or go home right? jk I don’t think over a changing table is traditional, but it could actually be a blessing trying to get a baby to hold still a bit during changing.
Tanya @ Vegan Faith says
It’s beautiful! I love it! I really think that painting is so gorgeous. Maybe you could move it in above the bookshelf or the changing table. It might display it nicely!
Suzanne says
You look gorgeous! Absolutely beautiful 🙂 Your nursery is so nice and calm. I’d say you could do a mirror above the changing table. Apparently babies love looking at themselves – narcissistic much? LOL! Less than 60 days!
Jess @atasteofconfidence says
It looks so cute!!! I love it.
Corey @ the runner's cookie says
The nursery is so perfect and sweet! I love it. Looks like a very peaceful and comforting space. You look absolutely fabulous and content, and feeling little hiccups has got to be so cool!
Lauren says
The nursery seems so serene. I truly love it and that tree decal is so cute. I’d definitely go with a mirror above the dresser. It just looks like it would fit well there. You look great!
Caree @ Fit-Mama says
I LOVE the nursery!!! I wish I could give you suggestions on what to put on the walls but my babies rooms still are pictureless…i am horrible at decorating!! My hubby painted both of the rooms himself, he is more of the creative one in the fam…so i just left it alone after that…
Maria says
Beautiful! I absolutely love it and still cannot figure out if Baby D is a boy or girl -will come soon enough, right?
I think for over the booshelf, you could put a framed nursery rhyme text or browse Etsy for some cute art. I’m thinking old children’s book covers framed since it’s above your reading area.
I love that you are an organic cotton mom – I’ll be the same way!
Brittany says
Framed nursery rhyme- CUTE!! And yes, I will reveal the gender in a few (7-8) weeks and can NOT wait to share! It’s eating me up 🙂
Elle says
I think you’re having a boy 😉
For the area above the bookshelf I would just do something small. Like a little cross or “mom & baby” piece of clay art.
For the area above the changing area I would do a mirror or something that the baby could turn their head and look at. A lot of my friends have done mirrors and they love them because it opens up the room and the baby loves looking at themselves when they get a little older.
Your nursery is so beautiful and I’m so excited to finally see Baby D!!
Brittany says
Why boy? I love hearing why people guess what they do! 🙂
I have a beautiful clay pregnant lady figurine that a friend gave me… what a great idea to put it in the nursery!
Brooke @ Veggie Table says
Love love love the nursery – looks so calm and peaceful! I would definitely go with a mirror above the changing table…it would open the room up even more. Maybe you could do hand-prints / foot-prints when Baby D is born and frame / hang it above the book shelf?! Just a thought 🙂 So excited for you and the Hubbs!
Hannah says
I think it’s a girl!! That paisley bedding is gorgeous.
Brittany says
Thank you! I need some reassurance on the bedding since it was a bit pricey 🙂 What makes you think girl??
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
i think a mirror would be cute! and i love the tree!! and that painting is amazing.
Danielle says
The nursery looks amazing! Can’t wait to see Baby D in it! One word of advice- our changing table is by the window, and as soon as he could reach his little arm up, Charlie started grabbing at everything when we change his diaper. If you put something above yours, make sure it’s nothing Baby D can pull down on top of her/himself!!
Brittany says
Aw, how is sweet Charlie?! And thanks for the words of wisdom, mama!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
I agree with lots of the other comments: a framed photo must go above the changing table!! I would say buy the frame now and wait until you take your first family photo and put it in there.
You look great! The nursery looks great! Such a positive inspiration to those of us who have yet to have babies!
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers says
I love the nursery. I want a gender-neutral one too- maybe jungle theme…
Paulina says
Your nursery is so beautiful. Very calming and I’m jealous of the amount of space you have in this room! OK, for above the changing table, I’d suggest hanging something interesting for Baby D to look at during changings. Maybe a bright, colorful painting, a collage of family photos, or something along those lines. Babies can get fussy when you lie them down to change diapers so having something for them to focus on can help. I’m making a DIY baby mobile to hang above our changing table for my little one. I’d hang a cool mirror above the bookshelf or more pictures of the family, including your pup! I love reading your baby posts, keep ’em coming please 🙂
Brittany says
oh wow, you’re making a mobile? Send me a picture! I’m so impressed with people with creative talents!
ashley@piesandpushups says
1) LOVE That nursery
2) Koda is too flippin’ cute laying on that carpet – something tells me she will be up with you in that room during those late night feedings 🙂 So precious
3) I would hang a cool maternity picture of you and the hubs somewhere in the room. I always love pictures of women when they are pregnant – maybe a pretty black and white shot of your pregnant belly in a really beautiful frame?
Brittney says
I LOVE your nursery Brittany! Love darkwood cribs/furniture and gender neutral stuff 🙂 I also love the lambie hanging out in the crib- lambs are awesome 🙂
Roz says
Baby D is one lucky little boy/girl – that is a beautiful room. (and wow…your friend is a talented artist!!) Looks like Koda has claimed it though! awww! I was thinking like some of your other readers, maybe photos of you, Hubbs, Koda and Baby D would be fun on the walls. Whatever you hang will be perfect I’m sure, it’s a great room!!! Have a good day.
Gina (The Candid RD) says
Your stats are PERFECT! Seriously, your doctor (and YOU!) must be very proud. This is so exciting. And, the baby’s room looks so fantastic and perfect. I’m sure I’ll be reaching out to you once I have a baby of my own. I love learning things ahead of time. The more I know, the better off I’ll be, I’m sure!
Karlee @olivewineandfood says
love the baby room and you look fabulous!
Melissa says
I absolutely love that first pic in your natural beauty. I would frame some pics for above the bookshelf like handprints and footprints or an actual pic of yours, hubs, and babies hands all in one pic. I think that angel pic would look better above the changing table watching over baby d. But maybe it doesn’t match your nature decor. Makes me want to peruse the net for ideas. If i find any I’ll share.
Nicole, RD says
You look amazing! I love the cravings, that’s great 🙂 55 days…!!
Michelle Fritzler says
How exciting! I love seeing the moses basket because those are a life saver. When my little girl was born 8 months ago and my neighbor said that a moses basket was a must have I thought she was crazy! Well I can eat my words because that thing was so handy. Not only can your little one sleep anywhere in it but he/she can come along with you where ever you need to go because all you have to do is pick up the basket and carry them (duh I know you know this though). I would put a mirror above changing table so you and baby can look at each other and make funny faces 🙂 I don’t think you need anything above the bookcase since the wall is an odd shape I think the bookcase looks perfect on the wall all alone. If you must put something maybe a really small decal that has a meaningful quote. Also my 100 pound black lab Gunther made sure that there was just enough room for him to lay on the nursery floor so he could have cuddle time with his little sis 🙂
Allie {A Teaspoon of LIFE} says
You need a large photo of you and daddy holding baby D once he/she arrives. To remind him/her how much you love him/her every day.
Super cute nursery. I love how clean it looks, I wonder how long that will last 🙂 !!
Toni says
Sorry, I’m FINALLY able to sit down and post.. GORGEOUS nursery!!! I love, love, love the tree and all the colors and ESPECIALLY, (David..) that GORGEOUS, organic bumper!! =D I’m so happy you love the painting, and it looks great on the door! I have often thought about framing some of my paintings in order to make them look more…umm, nice? fancy? Idk… Anyhow, you look absolutely beautiful in that first shot! We have family and maternity pics in our nursery, and Kori loves looking at them and saying who is who.. And I love the mirror ideas of putting one above the changing table, although, that will, for sure, encourage him/her to stand up and look in it. Talk soon! xxo
Sam says
OMG I LOVE IT! I don’t know i seriously got a little teary eyed at just how precious it is. I love the wall decal, I have seen so many awesome ones on etsy! I think a mirror above the changing area would be nice. And I think something could go over the bookshelf? But I don’t know what! You did a fantastic job though!!
almost forgot, the painting on the door is very beautiful too.
Carrie says
Just stumbled across your blog & I really like the color of Baby D’s room…what is it???
I agree with a few others, I think you need some pics of you & the Hubbs around, but I would go with sepia tone not black & white. I think that would go better.
P.S. Your preg stats look awesome! (I’m a nursing student, so this excites me…I’m such a dork!) Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy!
Carrie says
Wow…just saw that this was posted in the summer! Whoops!
