This weekend was a fun and busy one, so I thought it would only be appropriate to share with you the highlights (and lowlights) superlative style…
Best New Restaurant
Picture outside the restaurant? Clearly we don’t get out much
Hubbs ordered the bison burger and fried pickles. Holy moly, those fried pickles were the Biz-Omb! (Worth a trip to CLT, Xtina!)
I went with a fusion dish called Mary had a little Lamb-urgushi. “All natural ground seasoned lamb, kalamata olives, capers, feta cheese, red onions and spring mix rolled hosomaki style with soy paper and rice. Each piece is topped with tzatziki sauce, diced tomato, English cucumber, fried capers and fresh chopped mint”
Between the presentation and the capers, I was sold. So good!
Best Celebrity Sighting
He’s so much taller than I would have imagined!
Biggest Letdown
Ok, I’m about to get crucified. You know when you are excited to see a movie because everyone tells you it’s the BEST movie they’ve ever seen in the whole wide world… then, no matter how good the movie is, it kind of lets you down?
It happened to me at Lululemon.
The people were fantastically friendly and helpful, the clothes were super cute, but the wonder unders? Sure they were comfortable, but they sure didn’t transform my life… or my thighs. I hesitate to show you this, but proof:
No one needs to see that walking around the grocery store. I liked the Groove Pants much better, but I found a pair of Nike pants at Nordstroms that felt just as great for 1/2 the price. #sorryimnotsorry
Best Food Find
Hummus mix! As I was perusing the aisles at my beloved Healthy Home Market, I found this:
Just add water and olive oil? It sounded awesome. And it was.
This is my new go-to for hummus! So much cheaper and it’s really good! Plus, I can mix in whatever I please… garlic, olives, etc.
Best Beer
The Coco Loco from Noda Brewing Company. It’s a porter, which isn’t usually my style, but it was delicious! We hope to go back sometime to take a brewery tour for my homebrew-loving hubby.

What was a high or low from your weekend?
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Haha, love the husband “get me out of this store face” I’ve never seen that one before! 😉 (totally kidding)
Lowlight: spending 12 hours in the car
Highlight: getting to spend a few hours with my friends from college
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
What a cute fun post! And I’m not sold on lululemon either. 😉
Whitney says
Wow, your husband is patient! Mine won’t even go anywhere near a mall with me, not that I would want him too. He rushes me too much! haha
Highlight of the weekend was watching the Broncos beat the Steelers!
Lowlight of the weekend: none 🙂
Holly says
Thank you for your honestly on LULU!
I have been anti due to the price and it makes me wonder when all the bloggers rave. I am glad to hear an honest opinion. I have a similar body shape to you, so I appreciate the input!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I’ll have to try the bulk bin hummus soon. I’ve seen it but usually skip right on by.
That porter looks pretty tasty!
Christie says
I am bummed that the Lulu response wasn’t better, but glad you at least tried it out. There are definitely different styles that work better for different people, so am glad you tried on more than just the wunder unders.
I want to try Cowfish so bad. Never heard a bad word. Have you tried BlueStar Grill yet (small place in Mooresville)? Great salads! Even my husband loves their cobb. I get it with grilled chicken.
Christie says
Saw this and thought i’d share- it’s a Lulu video that describes the other fits! http://bit.ly/wkNJg4
Brittany says
I want to try Blue Star Grill! I wasn’t sure what kind of food they served though. GLad to hear it’s good! Maybe I’ll like Lulu more when wogging trims up my thighs 🙂 I did like the Groove pants though, so I might get those one day.
Rachel @ Not Rachael Ray says
Looks like fun! Great family photo 🙂
That hummus mix is so interesting, I’ve never seen anything like it.
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Love that last picture! ‘
And I have yet to even step inside Lululemon because I can’t fathom paying that much for workout clothes.
The best part of my weekend was making some progress in wedding planning! Wedding = my life for the next 6 months.
Brittany says
Oh wedding planning… so, so much fun! Hope you’re enjoying it 🙂
Lee says
I agree with you about Lululemon. It’s cute stuff but not cute enough to warrant paying $100 for a pair of pants.
Andrea says
Use your new PC to cook up some chickpeas to make your own super yummy hummus in less than an hour (without pre-soaking!).
Hooray for Nike! Just recently discovered your blog and was going to comment on your question about LuLu and what our favorite workout clothes are but realized that was a long time ago. I’ve never been able to convince myself to spend the money on those clothes. I’m die-hard Nike (all the time) and Under Armor (for cold weather) for my running gear. I remember you mentioned yoga pants too…for yoga I wear almost anything. I don’t feel I need very high performance gear for yoga. But I did just buy yoga pants from Aerie (my weekend highlight…finding a Small LONG 34″ inseam yoga pant, Aerie for $21.25 after a coupon code and free shipping – ordered two!). I’ve always wanted to try Athleta for yoga gear (it’s basically GAP) but again, turned off by the price. But the “model” in their catalogue are very inspiration shown in advanced yoga poses.
Another high…learned my wedding band is ready and my fiancee picked out his!!
Brittany says
I was just browsing through an Athleta catalog and agree- cute stuff and the models make me wanna be a hard core yogi 🙂 oh, and YAY for wedding bands!!
Sarah says
I’m of the “over-rated” opinion on lululemon. I have a jacket that I loved at first, but then… I found that the “luon” fabric is code for “attracts dog hair like a muther-ucker”… and then I found that if I wash it with my regular (cotton) clothes, it gets pill-y… and then I found that if I wash it with my ski base layers (and special technical fabric detergent) it sucks up the smell forEVER. So, now it’s a pill-y, stinky, hairy, expensive mess that I never wear. The End
Maria says
Fried pickles are the best things, ever. I was craving some last night actually (no, I’m not….)
The Wunder Unders are not my friend, either. I cannot pull them off in the least, but the Groove pants, definitely. I guess if it came down to it though, my favorite workout pants are these Champion crops that I got in the little girls section at Target for $15 🙂
Megan @ The Road to Skinny says
Hahaha! Love the husband’s face! And I just love fried pickles! I have been meaning to make some baked ones at home and it just never tops my list!
Katie says
I think both your face in the Lululemon picture and your hub’s face in the last one are priceless! I have no experience with Lululemon clothes (my cheapo nature can’t get past the price) but your face in that picture made me laugh out loud! And way to go posting it. I think you look great! 🙂
Sherry says
Hailey looks so cute in her Osh Gosh overalls!
Kayla says
I agree that the groove pant suits the majority of people better than the less forgiving wonder under. The thing about the “tights” (wonder unders) is that you will wear them all the time!! I wear them for working out, but also under sweater dresses or long tops with tall boots. That’s why I think they’re special, they can still look great outside of the gym. BUt I definitely agree that the groove pant is probably the best “first lulu purchase” to make!
Kari says
I love reading your post, you crack me up with your humor!
Weekend High – NY Giants won! Spending time with family.
Weekend Low – Working extra hours. Missed my hubby.
Heather says
I love these high/low points. That hummus is interesting, I will have to keep an eye out for that here. Also, the fried pickles and burger looks delicious.
High: Picking my wedding invitations!
Low: None
Jamie @ FoodinRealLife says
Your dinner looks so awesome- what a neat combination of ingredients!
And thanks for the honest Lulu review!
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
I bet that hummus mix would be good mixed with some pumpkin…..
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
hahah. you look adorable with the biebs. hubs needs to watch it.
and speaking of hubs? that last face….. ahaha.
kristin point says
I also can’t do lulumon… I’m too cheap. I love under armour and they have an outlet by me with great buys!
Highs: I got engaged!!! I got to relax a lot :).
Lows: boyfriend.. Err fiance now (!) had to leave for work after proposal 🙁
Brittany says
Engaged?!!? Squeeeeeeee!!! Congratulations!!!
Katie @ Pop Culture Cuisine says
While I haven’t tried any Lulu stuff, I had a bunch on my wish list, but then why I had the money to splurge I couldn’t bring myself to spend it all on one item…I found a bunch of cute stuff way on sale at the Nike outlet instead! Maybe someday 😉
High: Scored some cute black riding boots originally $250 for $50 at T.J. Maxx
Low: Had to endure shopping for the husband actually while I consoled our screaming baby in Macy’s, pretty sure we are hitting the 4 month growth spurt.
Erin says
Highlight: having a wonderful husband and a beautiful baby that allowed me to run errands for 2 hrs
Lowlight: telling my husband the right way to do things. Oops!
Christine says
First of all your beautiful, but what you said about Lululemon cracked me up! 🙂 I love yoga and I live in a modest neighborhood surrounded by a wealthy one. In my yoga classes I find myself feel a little self conscious in my workout clothes when everyone else is decked out in Lululemon! You made me feel a little better about my TJ Maxx workout gear finds haha
Elizabeth @TheBareMidriff says
I became an AUNT for the first time!
Sarah says
Ikea date night complete with swedish meatballs and toys for the baby I’m baking!
PS- those are terrible pants. Thank you for saving me the humiliation of ever trying them on.
JenRD says
I love the new Old Navy line of workout clothes. They are flattering, comfortable, made with sweat-wicking material, and won’t break the bank!
Cute pics!

Meg @ My Chocolate Covered Life says
I haven’t hopped aboard the Lululemon train either. I have a pair of shorts that cost me $50 and are good if you’re willing to shell out serious cash, but I’m fine with cheaper stuff.
Kirsten says
I still haven’t been to cowfish but all I hear are good things. I’m also dying to try noda brewing co!
Glad y’all loved the humus mix, but you really should trying making humus from scratch if you haven’t. It is way simpler than you would think!
Lindsay says
I have never bought into the lululemon craze either! I am a fan of North Face though and I wear them ALL of the time and people tell me I am crazy for that, but I guess you buy what you like and you dont buy what you dont like/won’t wear! 😀
christina says
I got so excited to see the fried pickles. They look really good. But holy moly your dish looks even better! YUM!
Jen@FoodFamilyFitness says
Your family is so cute!
I tried fried pickles for the first time at a restaurant near us…SOLD. I didn’t know something could taste so delightful!!!
Lulu is so out of my price range I’ve never gone into a store, I’m more Old Navy workout clothes kind of girl and I love them 🙂
