This past month Hailey has been a pretty good eater. She isn’t always consistent, though. For example, she may have a large breakfast, then a 4 bite lunch and large dinner. Other nights she hardly wants any dinner. I want her to learn to eat based on listening to her own internal cues, so I try not to let it bother me. I figure she is growing well and will eat when she is hungry.
So what is she eating? Mostly mini-meals of what I’m having…
Oatmeal with chia seeds, diced banana and strawberry
She always has a banana first thing in the morning (8:15am). We alternate between egg-centric breakfasts and oatmeal. This particular day she ate in layers, so all the fruit was gone, as was the chia. About 1/3 of the oatmeal was left uneaten.
1/2 peanut butter sandwich on sunflower bread, raw pepper strips and milk
Our go-to vegetable lately is raw pepper, especially red pepper. No dip necessary; Hailey likes it how it is. She ate all the pepper and and 2/3 of her sandwich around 11:30am.
When she wakes up from nap around 2:30pm, she has a snack. It usually consists on cheese and fruit. She has been loving craisins or apple, but when we are on the go, pouches and string cheese work great!
Mexican quinoa and olives
Hailey likes flavorful food. She was picking at the quinoa until I mixed in some salsa. Then she devoured most of, leaving just a few bites. She ate all her olives.
However, for perspective, another recent dinner consisted only of olives and applesauce.
Dessert was an unsweetened applesauce. She loves those things. On another note, please tell me my child isn’t the only one who is an (adorable) mess by the end of the day? Boots, no pants and TWO bows. Because one bow just isn’t enough.
Your turn! What are you feeding your little ones?
Heather @ What Does She Do All Day? says
I’ve been trying to get Cupcake to eat oatmeal again, but she only wants it in granola bar form. I eat it for breakfast every morning and it would be so nice to share instead of making two different breakfasts! And no, your child is not the only adorable mess at the end of the day! Cupcake is often sans pants wearing slipper boots or sparkly boots that are a size too small.

When H wants a more ‘solid’ form, I make the 2 ingredient oat and banana “cookies.” SO easy. Mash 2 ripe bananas with 1 cup of oats and 1 tsp cinnamon. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. We both gobble them up 🙂
Thanks so much for linking up and sharing! I’m so glad H isn’t the only one who is a mess by day’s end.

I love reading these, because Liam is just a few months behind Hailey. It’s almost like a little glimpse at what he’ll be like (developmentally) in a few months! He’s just starting to get the hang of using utensils now. Sad that I wasn’t able to get a Munchkin Meals post together this month. This pregnancy is a bit more complicated than my first!
Brittany Dixon says
I need to catch up with you! What is going on with this pregnancy? I hope you are feeling well <3
Coleen @ The Redhead Baker says
We had a scare on Tuesday – a threatened miscarriage, but an ultrasound showed the baby happily kicking away with a strong heartbeat, so I’m following doctor’s orders to “take it easy.” At least the morning sickness is (finally!) easing!
Lauren says
I’m working on my munchkin meals post right now and I was writing about the flavor thing too. I love how similar Leo is to Hailey in terms of flavors. Food has to be really flavorful for him or else he won’t touch it. I haven’t seen many babies like that!
Brittany Dixon says
Hooray for daring taste buds! It’s fun, isn’t it?
Inspired Soul says
These are great ideas, thank you for sharing! I will try raw pepper strips, I’ve been looking for new snack ideas. My daughter is 20 months and loves the same foods. She loves her oatmeal with flax seeds, mashed banana, fresh blueberries, and almond milk. Another favorite is cauliflower crust pizza (recipe on my blog)- its a great use left overs and way to get kids to eat veggies!
Brittany Dixon says
We love cauliflower pizza crust! It’s what we are having tonight. I’m going to go check out your recipe to see if I should switch anything up 🙂
Heather @ Fit Mama Real Food says
Does hailey feed herself with the spoon? If so, that’s awesome! How’d you go about teaching her? Hunter’s fav food right now @ 11 mo – anything cheesy, anything bananay and avocado. I typically just feed him a mini meal of what I’m having too. So simple, love BLW!
Brittany Dixon says
She does! She is surprisingly decent at using the spoon. I first gave her one a couple months ago when I saw everyone else using one and thought we were behind the curve. It took a little practice, but I love that I don’t have to sit and spoon feed her now. Maybe give Hunter one to play with and see what he thinks? 🙂

I love your little munchkin in her eating table. So cute 🙂
You sure know how to feed your little one healthy food that still appeals to her.
Kristen@Change of Pace says
She eats so well. I know you probably hear that all the time! Thanks for sharing all these great meal ideas 🙂
Lindsay @ Health Foragers says
I love the boots and no pants.
Brittany Dixon says
I usually end up wearing the same by the end of the day!
…kidding of course…kind of 😉
Chantal says
I love getting ideas for meals from this! Penny is a mess by the end of the night… by bathtime she was only in a diaper, covered with markers and blueberries…
Karen says
Hailey is such a good little eater. Keely does pretty well most days but some days she is rather picky which is fine. As long as she’s not starving, I am okay with whatever she wants to eat.
Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome says
She’s so cute! Ummm…. my son would spend all day long with no pants on if he could. That includes no underwear so he walks around in just a shirt!
Brittany Dixon says
That’s amazing! I love the freedom little kids feel. Who needs pants?!
Neil Butterfield says
She looks so happy. Good to see a young one enjoying healthy food.
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers says
She’s too cute. That’s wonderful that she will eat the mini meals of what you eat. Of course, it helps that you’re such a healthy eater.
Tanya @ Vegan Faith says
So excited to link up to Munchkin Meals for the first time!
Brittany Dixon says
So happy to have you and Eleanor joining in! <3
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
She eats so similarly to L… the only difference, is that in the last six months, L stopped eating “mixed foods” like the quinoa or chili… although mixing fruit into oatmeal or yogurt is fine. Silly girl.
And oh yes, by the time daddy gets home she is often pant-less as well, with some crazy hair. 🙂
Beth Sheridan says
My 2 1/2 year old boy eats the same way…Sometimes he can finish two whole slices of cheese pizza and then sometimes he will eat one bite and be perfectly happy. He also still loves pouches and any kind of cheese you put in front of him.
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Maybe it is because I am a small child at heart…but I love seeing what kids eat. 🙂
I also think we should all eat like kids. If only we could accept our own hunger signals as easily as they do.
Amanda says
This was our first time linking up! Thank you! So much fun 🙂 I can’t wait to transition Noah to more “people” food. You all make it look so fun!
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate says
Haha Haley eats pretty damn healthy for being so young!

As soon as you’re done with those 12 reps, grab a drink, right
back over to the chin-up bar again, and you can start right now!
It just means you are going to have and in my next article I’m going to show you my thought process when it comes to purchasing
a Force Factor gym. However exercising may be the wearing
down of musclescatabolism. To stimulate probably the dimethylamylamine hcl most muscle growth you have to abide by it completely and make
certain to keep an open mind.
