I enjoy playing in the kitchen and putting together pretty meals for Hailey… when I have the time. Quite often, though, her meals are a hodge podge of whatever we have on hand that I can throw on her tray while she chases after me saying Eat! Eat!
Because of this reason, I decided to use her 21 month Munchkin Meals post to show off some off the odd combos she’s chowed down on this past week or so.
Without further adieu… here are Hailey’s tODDler meals…
The hodge podge: Brown rice with homemade salsa, chicken, carrot sticks and feta cheese
The Breakfast Buffet: Blueberries, banana, scrambled eggs, cheese and avocado
The Quickie: Annie’s Mac ‘n Cheese, frozen peas, frozen blueberries
The Fridge Clean Out: Cucumber, tomato, avocado, broccoli and yogurt
The Greens Hidder (because H isn’t a fan of eating big leaves): Quinoa with finely chopped spinach, feta and French Vinaigrette and tomatoes.
The Surprise: Tuna salsa, strawberries, celery and BLUE DIAMOND HABANERO BBQ ALMONDS! I never would have guessed she could handle the heat. She loves ‘em.
The Yogurt Surprise: Stonyfield vanilla yogurt, granola and broccoli.
The ‘Ok-this-is-kind-of-fancy’: Mini whole wheat pesto pizza, broccoli and tomatoes
Your turn! Share what your kids have been eating…

Does she eat the peas frozen? Because if so, that is awesome! I love frozen peas :).
Brittany Dixon says
She does! She actually gets weirded out if I cook them because I’ve always given them to her frozen and I think she thinks that is normal. #momoftheyear
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
That is too funny! But hey, less prep work for you! 😉

These look like great healthy meals. Watch choking hazards though, especially the nuts and possibly frozen peas (http://www.med.umich.edu/yourchild/topics/choking.htm)

Luckily with BLW she is a pretty proficient eater, but I definitely keep a close eye on her with the almonds. I exaggerate the chewing motion and she follows suit. Great reminder, though!

Your little girl likes frozen peas? Wow! Not many kids like peas frozen.
Great meals for your little munchkin.

Love these! Is it sad that these are most days in my house haha! Especially the hodge podge 😉

I find it so interesting to read about your meals for H. I need to go back and reread some of your posts from when you first started these meals. Any idea when about that was?? I want to get some ideas for when Addie gets a little older!

Check the munchkin meals tab at the top of my page! We started at 6 months, which would have been mid-March ish of 2012 …WOW. She’s growing up fast.

Haha I’d say most of Wyatt’s foods are odd combos. He put corn in his cherry yogurt the other day and ate it. Gag. Thanks for hosting 🙂

Yum!

I love spicy foods, but when I got the chili lime almonds and my son wanted to try one, I was a little hesitant, because like you, I didn’t think he would be able to handle the heat. However, he LOVES them and wants them all the time now 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve never seen chili lime!!! I’m know on the look out. They sound amazing. And aren’t kids so funny and unpredictable?!

Is it weird I like to read these so that I can try foods on my younger Sister (who is 19) since she hates most healthy foods. Probably, but I go with it;)
When I was a kid the ONLY veggie I ate were raw carrots or frozen peas, yep they had to be frozen and I loved them.
Brittany Dixon says
I’m so glad to hear a kid can grow up eating frozen peas and still turn out normal and wonderful 😉 Maybe I won’t mess her up after all!

My goodness, not going to lie, but I’m a little jealous that you can plop food down on the plate for her! Leo will not touch food plain… no plain fruit, no plain veggies, but if they’re in a casserole or oatmeal, we’re good to go! It’s nice because he eats some crazy combos, but hard because I need to be creative a lot of the time. And must say, crazy impressed at the habanero almonds! I can handle a lot of spice and even I thought those were a bit hot!
Brittany Dixon says
I use salad dressing as a secret weapon for quinoa and salsa for rice, since Hailey likes a little extra flavor, too! Well, actually it just depends what day of the week it is because her preferences change every few hours… 😉
Allison says
Question – what do you do with the rest of the avocado? My 8 month old obviously can’t eat a whole one in a day. I tried freezing slices, and that kinda worked but wondered if you had tried anything that worked well….other than eating the rest yourself! 🙂
Thanks!!
Brittany Dixon says
Usualllllllly I eat it. Haha. But if not, I cut it in half and give Hailey the side that does not have the pit in it. I leave the pit in the other half, squeeze some lime juice over the exposed flesh and store it in a plastic bag or mason jar for 1-2 days.
Heather @ What Does She Do All Day? says
It cracks me up that she loves her peas frozen! I might have to try them that way and see if they’re a little more palatable. (Peas aren’t my favorite!)
Coleen @ The Redhead Baker says
I love her odd meal combos! Liam is also a fan of spicy food — I made The Pioneer Woman’s enchiladas, and he couldn’t get it into his mouth fast enough!
Earlene Blosser says
It is funny but I did eat frozen peas when I was a kid as well. However, I can not stand it now. It is funny how my taste had change over the time. Btw, whole wheat pesto pizza looks amazing! Maybe I will try it tomorrow 🙂
