Welcome to Munchkin Meals! You can find previous link ups here and please check out my post on baby led weaning over at Rachel Cooks today!
These past two weeks with Hailey’s (22 months) eating have been odd. I’m not sure if it was teething, her schedule being thrown off because of vacation or if it’s a new stage in her eating development, but meals have been more simple. Some as simple as yogurt and chia seeds with fruit.
Sometimes a wheat English muffin thrown in if we’re feeling wild.
Some of the simplicity I can blame on my laziness nutty schedule (that fortunately should be calming down soon).
I’ve tried to get fancy a few times…
but with lackluster results. The only foods eaten in the above meal were the olives, the goat cheese and 1/2 a red pepper strip.
Hailey seems to have gotten wary of peels in the past week. She will scrape the flesh off a pepper stick then leave the skin; same with peaches. It’s an odd new behavior for her and I’m waiting to see if it sticks around or is just a phase.
I can always count on her eating three things, though. First, fish.
Secondly, avocado. I love that she loves this one.
Finally, cream cheese sandwiches. It’s a recently discovered favorite food. She gets really excited when she asks for ‘Cweem Teeze!’
Life should calm down by next week, and then I am looking forward to getting back on track with serving vegetables on a consistent basis to her, but until then, avocado, cream cheese and fish will do just fine.
Also, I have to share these cute snacks I’m talking about on Thursday on WCCB News Rising…
I had so much fun creating alternative versions to the classic Ants on a Log.
Celery, peanut butter, raisins
Celery, cream cheese, craisins
Celery, hummus, black olives
Red pepper, guacamole and black beans
Now, let’s hear from you!

Your creative takes on ants on a log are awesome!! I especially love the guac and black beans.

The ants on a log variations are so stinkin’ cute!
And it’s awesome that Hailey likes fish and avocados–some of the best fats around! 🙂

My son is eating about the same. He also doesn’t like the peel on foods like apples and if I forget to peel them, I find the skin in left in his chair 🙁 I love the cream cheese sandwich idea! Might have to give that one a try!

Can’t wait to try the red pepper with quac and black beans–yum!

Awesome job with the ants on a log–the names were pretty creative too! I hated celery growing up, but now it’s ok. Are ants on a log a funny adult snack? 🙂
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says
Em loves celery as a mode to dip in things. She uses it essentially as a spoon haha.

I love Munchkin Meals!! I’ve done a post for the last two weeks. Do you have a button I could add to the side of my blog for you, bc I’d love to pass any traffic (even my small amounts of it) to your site.

I used to ignore the munchkin meals posts bc they didn’t really apply to me – but I am trying to introduce more finger foods to Emily now that she is basically rejecting purees – and they are SO helpful! Thank you thank you!
