Hey yall! I’m running a little late this morning because I was busy hanging out with my buddy, Uncle Joey!
AHH! I don’t see many celebs so I was super excited to meet Dave Coulier and find out first hand that he’s a really nice guy in real life.
I met him while was in the studio preparing for my WCCB Rising segment.
We ended up running behind and had to move pretty quickly through it, but you can watch Kristine and I make calzones together here!
I thought it wouldn’t hurt to give a little more detail on the process here, though, so whether you make them heart shaped for Valentine’s Day or FOOTBALL shaped (would be so cute!) for the big game this weekend, these are sure to be a hit with both kids an adults.
You will need:
– pizza dough
– mozzarella (shredded)
– pizza sauce
– desired toppings (I suggest finely diced peppers, spinach and olives)
– egg white
I highly suggest making your own dough. I love this whole wheat dough version, but you can also you croissant or pizza dough from the store. However, with the premade ones, you want to watch out for trans fats that so many of them have (partially hydrogenated oils).
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and roll the dough very thin (1/4-1/2 inch).
Using a cookie cutter, cut out equal-sized hearts or desired shape.
Fill middle with a thin layer of pizza sauce, toppings and cheese.
Place another dough heart on top of filling and crimp the edges with a fork.
Brush the tops with egg white. You can sprinkle parmesan on the egg white if you desire. Then place in the oven for 10-15 minutes until cooked through. Serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Will you be watching the Super Bowl?
Who will you be cheering for?
The Seahawks, the Broncos… or the funny commercials?!

How cool that you got to meet “Joey!!” Have you seen the Jimmy Kimmel Full House reunion skit? Awesome!
And I’ll be watching the Superbowl but not with any sort of intensity! I’m usually there for the food anyways! Ha!
Verna says
No Superbowl in our house. We aren’t big sports people, unless we’re playing it ourselves. I always pick a team though and used to live in Seattle so Seahawks for me! 😉
Laura says
Awww, Uncle Joey!! That’s so cool!

Two “television personalities” at the studio. Ah, fame! Calzones look good. Would you drop some off so that we can take them to our Super Bowl party while rooting for Russell Wilson (Univ. of Wisc.) and the Seahawks?
Jennifer @ The Final Forty says
Ahhh, Uncle Joey! Too cool. I’m not a huge football fan, but I DO like to make/eat snacks while my BF and family watch (haha)…so thanks for the great idea! 🙂

I absolutely love Full House, and I think this is so awesome! What a cute picture. 🙂

Aww! I love Uncle Joey – what a cool experience for you! I used to be an avid Full House fan when I was young and always said that I wanted to move to San Francisco when I grew up. Funny how things turn out that way!
I’ll be rooting for the Broncos because Colorado is my favorite (and Peyton Manning is a good kid).

Oh what a cute idea! Homemade calzones are a freezer staple in our house.
Mague says
Yeah did anybody even make this recipe? Because I’d be interested on comments about the actual recipe!
Doreen says
I made this recipe today because yesterday I purchased some frozen dough then left it on the counter all day accidentally! I popped it in the fridge overnight and then today I was searching for an easy and savory recipe. Well… now there is a new staple in our house! The recipe came out perfect and was a nice treat for my daughter and husband when they came in after playing in the snow all afternoon.
